Books By K.G. Alford

Music. Memory. Culture. Storytelling.

K.G. Alford is the secular storytelling imprint of my writing—a space dedicated to exploring the music, culture, history, and stories that have shaped generations, as well as the fictional worlds still waiting to be imagined.

Under the K.G. Alford name, you’ll find books that examine the emotional power of music history, Black cultural memory, popular culture, and, in time, cinematic fiction inspired by compelling characters and unforgettable stories.

Before Thriller. Before the Moonwalk. Before Michael Jackson became the biggest entertainer in the world, there was Jacksonmania.

The Jackson 5: The Forgotten Wave explores how five brothers from Gary, Indiana, inspired a level of excitement once compared to Beatlemania—only for that remarkable cultural phenomenon to be overshadowed by Michael Jackson’s unprecedented solo career.

This is not a history of the Jackson 5, but of the mania, cultural impact, and frenzy that surrounded the group. Newspapers, radio DJs, television hosts, music magazines, and fans all reached for the same comparison: Beatlemania.

Blending music history, cultural commentary, television history, and generational memory, the book examines how Motown transformed the Jackson 5 into an international sensation and how their influence helped redefine youth entertainment, merchandising, and popular culture.

Drawing on extensive research into Motown, television, merchandising, race, and media, The Jackson 5: The Forgotten Wave revisits a pivotal chapter in American music history—one that deserves to be remembered in its own right, not simply as the beginning of Michael Jackson’s story.

Michael became the dominant focus later. But Jacksonmania belonged to the Jackson 5.
